It has great bright light, is nice and high, I leave it on 8 hours a day and it hasn't burned out yet. It is not instantly adjustable, but I leave it in the same place all the time. Adjusting the tilt correctly so it wouldn't reflect off my monitor took awhile. That is why 4 stars instead of 3. Great product. I was surprised at the poor reviews.

This lamp came in lightly damaged packaging.It produced light for about 1/4 second, and that was it.Changing the fluorescent tube brought forth no more light.After that initial flash, super-heated plastic and ozone could be smelled, emanating from the the ballast in the base.Kind of scary.

Grandrich PL-27W Full Spectrum Replacement Bulb

I bought this replacement bulb on Oct 6, 2005. Today is the first of Feb. 2006--it died. Assuming that I never turned off the lamp during those 3 months, my math tells me that in order for the bulb to burn out I must have had the lamp on for 111 hours/day for five months. (111 hours x 30 days x 3 months = 9990 hours.) Only, I never quite lived a 111 hour day yet.

If I figure I used the lamp for no more than 6 hrs/day for those 3 months. I only got 540 hours out of it. However you look at it, it seems this bulb missed the mark on the 10,000 in a premature death.

(More customer reviews)I ordered this lamp on Wed. and it arrived Friday, great shipping time.The dimensions are a little off, for if you place the first top section straight up you can get a heigth of 44 inches, and with the second section extended up as far as it will go gives an overall height of 48 inches.See my photo.The color is a darker red than shown, which I like much better.The two negative qualities were that to tighten the adjustment on the globe to sit straight out from the top section as shown in the photo, you have to use plyers, as trying to hand tighten will not hold it. Second, the switch is a togle on the cord itself so you have to place the lamp where you can reach this easily. Which in my case was not a problem. Also, the cord itself comes out of the back of the globe and runs down to the bottom adjustable arm and then out, which is not reflected in the picture.This gives a nice light to read by, the lamp is small so it does not over power the space. If the height and switch are not a problem for where you want to place the lamp, this really is a great buy.

Grandrich G1106SVR Three-Light Tree Lamp, Silver

(More customer reviews)When you buy a cheap lighting product, you pretty much expect something to be wrong with it out of the box. This one, though, takes the cake. First, it buzzes loudly whenever turned on. Second, the stand is made of a flimsy quasi-tinfoil material that wobbles and seems unable to support its own weight. It's been three days since we've had it, and it's already bowed. Third, the cans which hold the lightbulbs are horribly flimsy plastique and don't correctly align with the bulb-stands. The joint-grooves of the cans are somehow already stripped, causing one of the three lights to point limply at the ground.

So, we bought junk knowing it was junk. But somehow, this remarkable confluence of such multiple levels of shoddy craftsmanship still managed to surprise us. Possibly the worst product ever constructed by sober or at least light-responsive vertabrates.

But the bulb REALLY does help.I do a lot of reading and studying, and so far I have not experienced any eye fatigue.I just gave one to my mom as a pre-Christmas gift; she has had some eye problems and reads a lot and does crosswords, and she loved it from the get go.

So my recommendation is that since it's really the bulb you want, buy the cheapest lamp that you can, and I believe that this one is the most reasonably priced.
