I ordered this lamp on 4/27/09 for my new office.When it arrived, it didn't work. Nothing was outwardly broken-- but the lamp would not light up.
I called the company and explained the problem and requested a replacement.After putting me on hold for quite awhile, the customer service representative came back and told me that it must be bad wiring--and that I should fix it myself!Or if I wasn't equipped, maybe I knew someone who was good with electronics who could fix it for me.
In fairness, she also said that I would receive a discount for fixing it myself. I don't know how much.
Still, I have never before called a company to report a defective item and been told to fix it myself.
I explained that the first thing I did was check all exposed wiring connections.I was not going to attempt anything beyond that- I had paid over $100 for for this item and wanted a replacement that worked.
After another period of time on hold, the customer service rep agreed to send me a return label so that I could ship the lamp back for a replacement.
It took WEEKS to deliver the replacement lamp- during this time, I heard nothing from the company.Eventually I had to contact them and ask for a tracking number to find out if they had even shipped it.
The replacement did not arrive until May 26. So it was a month from my original order before I actually had a working version of the item I purchased.
The replacement lamp itself is fine, and I understand that merchandise can have defects.But the company's response to the problem was unacceptable; after this experience I would never purchase from Lamps Plus again.
