The "lace" frills definitely add to the overall look. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. There is absolutely no assembly required for this lamp and the only manual steps involved are inserting the bulbs and plugging it into the wall socket. The floor lamp comes with a foot / floor switch with makes it easy to switch it on / off. The ivory color and the way the light shines / reflects through it creates a dreamy look.
